Updating the Industrial Edge Management OS (end-of-life)

When a new version of the Industrial Edge Management-OS is available, you receive an according notification in the Notifications screen in the Industrial Edge Hub. You download the updated version from the Industrial Edge Hub under the Download Software > Update Packages section in the *.swu file format.

Special consideration for the update procedure of IEM OS

When updating your IEM OS, you must update the following components in the given sequence:

• Updating the IEM OS
• Updating the Industrial Edge Management App
• Updating IEM Services
• Updating Edge Devices
• Updating Configurators
• Updating System and other Apps

Requirement

• You have access to the IE Hub.
• You are signed up to the Maintenance UI.
• A new version of the Industrial Edge Management-OS is available.

Procedure

1. Open and log into the IE Hub.

2. In the navigation menu, click Download Software.

3. Click Update Packages.

4. Click Download.
   
   The *.swu update file of the new Industrial Edge Management OS version is getting downloaded to the standard download folder of your Internet browser.

5. Wait until the file is downloaded.

6. Open the Maintenance UI by entering the IP address, that is displayed in the VM after you set up the VM, into an Internet browser.

7. Log into the Maintenance UI.

8. In the navigation menu, click Settings.

9. Click the System tab.

10. Click the Update Industrial Edge Management tile.
    
    The Update - Industrial Edge Management screen is displayed.
    

11. Drag and drop the .swu file to the Software Update section or click within the Software Update section to select the.swu file.
    The file is being uploaded.
    After the file is uploaded, the update of the Industrial Edge Management-OS starts automatically.
    
    The update process takes some time. Do not turn off power during the update process.

    NOTICE

    By clicking Messages, you expand the update details.

    When the update process reaches 100%, the Industrial Edge Management-OS restarts automatically. This process takes approximately 10 minutes. After the restart, the update was successful. If the Maintenance UI is not reachable after another 10 minutes, perform an additional manual restart of the VM.

    NOTICE

    If you try to log into the Maintenance UI after you have updated the IEM OS, the login might fail. In this case, wait 5 more minutes and retry.
