Updating the Industrial Edge Management Virtual

Prerequisites

  • Industrial Edge Management Hub Access.
  • Active internet connection during update.

Procedure

To update the Industrial Edge Management Virtual, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Industrial Edge Hub and download the latest SWU file from the "Download Software" menu.

    Note the Digest

    Copy the digest value displayed in the IE Hub for the SWU package. You will need to enter this digest in the next steps to verify the package integrity.

  2. From the Launchpad UI, navigate to "Service & Maintenance".

  3. Navigate to "Software Update".

  4. Upload the SWU file via the "Browse" button or drag & drop.

  5. Enter the digest in the provided field. The digest must match the digest value displayed when downloading the SWU package from the Industrial Edge Hub.

    Digest Verification Required

    The digest ensures the integrity of the update package. Make sure the digest you enter matches exactly with the digest shown in the IE Hub for the downloaded SWU file.

  6. Confirm the following checkboxes:

    • Business Continuity Plan: Confirm that your business continuity plan includes regular backups
    • Backup Creation: Confirm that you have created a consistent backup (powered-off snapshot) before proceeding with the update
    • Downtime Communication: Confirm that downtime has been communicated to all Industrial Edge Management Virtual users

    NOTICE

    Invalid snapshots block updates. Do not rely on a snapshot created while the system was running. Such a hot snapshot can leave the virtual disk in an inconsistent state and may corrupt data. The update process will not proceed if it detects a running-system snapshot. Delete any invalid snapshot, gracefully shut down the VM, and create a new cold snapshot before retrying the update.

  7. Click "Update" to start the update process.

    Once initiated, the update process will begin automatically.
    The system will reboot during the update.

    Update Progress

    During the update, no progress will be visible to unauthenticated users. Only authenticated users with appropriate access can monitor the update status.

    NOTICE

    Cancel the update process only if necessary. Click on "Cancel" to cancel the update. A prompt appears to confirm the cancellation. The system then rolls back all changes and reboots.

Check Update Status

On the Service and Maintenance main page, check the status of the last update under "Recent Activities".
