Share Device Applications

This page outlines the process for sharing Device Applications within the IEM. Application sharing allows you to grant specific users access to your custom applications or their individual versions, with granular control over the actions they can perform.

Overview

Application sharing is a powerful feature that enables you to:

  • Distribute custom apps: Make your customized applications available to other users within your IEM.
  • Granular control: Share any application or a specific version with other users, while maintaining precise control over the actions each recipient can perform. This ensures that users only have the capabilities you intend for them.
  • Role-Based access: When sharing an application, you select which actions (such as publishing, installing, or viewing) are available to the recipient. This control is managed through predefined role templates.

Prerequisites
Before you can share a Device Application, please ensure the following:

  • Custom applications only: This sharing functionality is specifically designed for custom applications that have been sideloaded to your IEM. Hub apps are managed differently.
  • Sharing permissions: You must have the necessary permissions assigned to your user account within the IEM to share applications.

How to share applications

You can share any application from your Device Applications with users registered in your IEM's identity and access management system.

  1. Navigate to your Device Application
  2. Select the application to share
  3. Access the Version information tab
  4. Initiate sharing
  5. Select the user and role template
  6. Confirm sharing

Once shared, the user will appear in a list of assigned users for that application, along with their assigned role. You retain the ability to remove their access at any time from this same interface.

How to share a specific application version

Sometimes you might need to share only a particular version of an application, rather than the entire application with all its versions.

  1. Navigate to your Device Applications
  2. Select the application
  3. Access the Version information tab
  4. Choose the version to share
  5. Select the user and role template
  6. Confirm sharing

The user will then appear in the list of assigned users for that specific version, and you can unassign them whenever necessary.
