Providing Devices

The Ecosystem is open to all device builders, and it offers its partners the opportunity to sell their edge devices. Before selling an edge device, the following rules need to be considered.

The device builders sell their industrial edge devices using the platform’s standard sales processes. In addition, the Industrial Edge Platform provides a device catalog where DMs and OEMs list their device on the Marketplace.

Product Onboarding

To sell their device as an industrial edge device, device builders need follow our Marketplace onboarding rules. The onboarding is divided into two different parts:

Commercial Onboarding

Device builders must ensure that the device delivery complies with the applicable export rules and that an open-source and license clearance is conducted. The device builder also needs to provide product specifications and the device type specifications via a secure data exchange mechanism to the Ecosystem Orchestrator.

Technical Onboarding

The technical onboarding needs to be performed in the Industrial Edge Management. This includes creating a device type and providing the latest firmware for the device. The device type is a technical representation of the device in the Industrial Edge Management System. The content of the device type is described in detail in the Device Builder Documentation. Before making these deliveries, the device builder needs to comply with the Testing Rules.

Promotion and Marketing

The Ecosystem Orchestrator strives to present partners and their offerings in the best possible light. All partner offerings will be actively promoted as part of the Ecosystem. Siemens is allowed to use device-specific information for marketing purposes (for example, at trade shows). The device builder is also allowed to promote the device as a partner device in the Industrial Edge Ecosystem by following the rules provided in the Marketing Guide.

Device Publication on the Hub

Publishing an device type to the Ecosystem end user is handled via the Industrial Edge Management. The device must first be published to the global backend. Once the device is published in the backend, the end user can pull the new device type to their local management systems. To submit a publishing request for a new Industrial Edge device, the device builder needs to send the onboarding package to the Ecosystem, including:

  • Product specifications
  • Device type specifications generated on IEM
  • Icon (png not larger than 1 MB, transparent ) of the device
  • Icon of producer (for example, Siemens, transparent)
  • Latest firmware for the device
  • Link to online Device Documentation
  • Result of IEDK Test Suite

Device Publication on the Marketplace

The Marketplace is the central platform for interacting with end user and producers in the Ecosystem. Device builders can list their device on the Marketplace. The Marketplace Seller Agreement regulates the rights and responsibilities between you as a partner and the Marketplace. Accepting and signing the Marketplace Seller Agreement is a prerequisite for publishing a device in the catalog. In addition, the product presentation for the Marketplace needs to be prepared in English, German or the local language.
